Payment and insurance for fMRI-guided TMS therapy
We’re here to help simplify payment and insurance options at Neurotherapeutix.
This page covers our pricing, deposits, how to schedule visits, and how we can help if you want to seek out-of-network reimbursement.
At a glance: what patients typically pay
Below is a simple overview of our standard fees and insurance policy:
- fMRI-based computational brain mapping: $5,000 total (includes a required $1,000 deposit to book the appointment and the remaining $4,000 due before the fMRI session).
- fMRI-guided TMS therapy session: $600 per session
- Insurance: Neurotherapeutix is not part of any insurance networks right now, but we can help you look into out-of-network reimbursement options
Please note: We also offer accelerated protocols in which several sessions per day can be scheduled based on imaging findings. Treatment plan options will be presented to you after the fMRI results are available to help determine the best approach for you.
Why fMRI-based computational brain mapping is part of our care
Neurotherapeutix is the pioneer of fMRI-guided TMS therapy and the only clinic in the country offering our specific approach, which pairs fMRI-based computational brain mapping with precision-guided stimulation.
fMRI is a widely used medical imaging method that measures brain activity using the blood-oxygen-level-dependent (BOLD) signal—meaning it reflects changes in oxygenation related to neural activity (for background, see how fMRI measures brain activity using the BOLD signal).
In plain terms: instead of “guessing” where to stimulate based on scalp measurements alone (common in standard TMS), our process tailors targeting to your brain’s individualized functional patterns.

How payment works at Neurotherapeutix
Step 1: phone consultation and clinical fit
Before you schedule imaging or treatment, our team starts with a phone consultation to review symptoms, treatment history, and goals. This helps ensure fMRI-guided TMS therapy is a reasonable next step.
Step 2: deposit for fMRI-based computational brain mapping
A $1,000 deposit is required prior to your imaging appointment. This deposit is applied toward the total cost of $5,000 for fMRI-based computational brain mapping.
If you cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice, the deposit is non-refundable. If you have travel or scheduling concerns, our team can help you plan appointments.
Step 3: imaging, results visit, and treatment planning
After imaging is completed, the remaining $4,000 balance is due before your results presentation visit.
During this follow-up appointment, your clinicians review the imaging findings and begin developing your personalized treatment plan based on your functional MRI-based computational brain mapping results.
Planning your TMS treatment costs in NYC
Choosing advanced TMS therapy is a personal decision that involves both clinical and financial considerations. Our goal is to provide clarity, transparency, and support so you can move forward with confidence.
If you have questions about TMS therapy cost, payment options, or what to expect before starting treatment, we encourage you to request an appointment and speak with our team to explore next steps together.
FAQs about payment and insurance
How much does the fMRI-based computational brain mapping cost?
The total cost of fMRI-based computational brain mapping is $5,000.
To reserve your appointment, we require a $1,000 deposit (applied to the total). After the scan is complete, the remaining $4,000 balance is due before your follow-up visit, where we present the results and finalize your fMRI-guided TMS therapy plan.
For patients who want more background on MRI safety, the U.S. National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering provides a helpful overview: MRI is a noninvasive test that does not use ionizing radiation.
How much is each fMRI-guided TMS therapy session?
Each fMRI-guided TMS therapy session is $600.
If you’re comparing options: many clinics offer standard TMS, but Neurotherapeutix is the only clinic in the country offering our specific fMRI-guided TMS therapy approach with fMRI-based computational brain mapping.
Do I have to pay for all fMRI-guided TMS therapy sessions at once?
No. You can pay for sessions individually as you come in for each appointment.
How many fMRI-guided TMS therapy sessions will I need?
Treatment is personalized so that the exact number may vary based on your symptoms, goals, and response.
In general, many patients begin to notice meaningful changes after 20–30 sessions, with an initial schedule often set at 5 sessions per week for 4–6 weeks.
If you’re traveling from outside of New York City or have a demanding schedule, ask us about consolidating visits when clinically appropriate.
How often will I need “tune-ups” or maintenance sessions?
If you achieve strong improvement during the acute phase, we typically taper sessions during maintenance. A common approach is to gradually step down to monthly sessions, then to every few months, with ongoing monitoring to reduce the risk of relapse.
Do you accept insurance for fMRI-guided TMS therapy?
Neurotherapeutix does not currently accept health insurance as an in-network provider.
However, our staff can help you pursue out-of-network reimbursement by providing documentation your insurer may require (for example, superbills or clinical receipts).
Coverage varies widely by plan and medical necessity criteria.
Can you help me figure out what my insurance might reimburse?
Yes. While we can’t guarantee reimbursement, we can support your process by providing the paperwork many plans request.
If you’d like to speak with us first, you can contact us through the form on this page or call (917) 388-3090.
Do you offer payment plans?
At this time, we are not offering payment plans.
What’s the difference between standard TMS and Neurotherapeutix fMRI-guided TMS therapy, and why does that affect cost?
Standard TMS typically uses generalized targeting methods (often based on scalp measurements) that do not incorporate individualized fMRI-based computational brain mapping.
Neurotherapeutix fMRI-guided TMS therapy includes:
- fMRI-based computational brain mapping to inform individualized targeting
- A results visit to review findings and personalize the treatment plan
- Ongoing clinical monitoring of your response over time
Because this approach includes specialized imaging and personalization—and Neurotherapeutix is the only clinic in the country offering this specific method—the cost structure differs from that of standard TMS offerings.
If you want to explore how our approach compares to conventional pathways, you may also find this internal page helpful: TMS: a safer alternative to ECT.
Where is Neurotherapeutix located, and does location affect pricing?
We are located at 171 East 74th Street, Unit 1-1, New York, NY 10021.
Pricing is the same regardless of where you’re traveling from, but we can help with scheduling strategies for patients coming from outside the NYC area.
