fMRI-TMS Director

01
BIOGRAPHY

Dr Moreno was trained at Columbia University Department of Psychiatry for the use of advanced imaging techniques in diagnosis of psychiatric disorders.  She established herself as an expert in the analysis of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and spectroscopy (MRS) data obtained from human brain. Upon completion of her post-doctoral training she was offered an assistant professor position at Columbia.  However, she preferred to continue her career in clinical settings and as such began working in Neurotherapeutix where she developed the technology for the use of resting state fMRI in detecting biosignatures of psychiatric disorders.  She also developed unique techniques for using rsfMRI to guide the treatment of these disorders with transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).

fMRI-TMS Director

01
BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Moreno completed her undergraduate training in psychology at the Madrid Complutense University (UCM), Spain. She earned her first Ph.D. in Clinical Medicine from the UCM School of Medicine in 2007 with the first-class distinction and received the prestigious award by the Royal Academy of Medicine for the best thesis of 2007- 2008. During her 4-year Clinical Psychology Residency Training, she developed a passion for clinical psychiatry/neuroscience and collaborated with several National and International research projects on the neurobiology of bipolar and schizophrenia patients.

As a result of the call to pursue clinical psychiatry and neuroscience, Dr. Moreno received her second Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the UCM School of Philosophy in 2013. She was then awarded a fellowship grant by the Foundation for Brain and Mind in Spain, which brought her to Columbia/NYSPI where she was trained in non-invasive brain stimulation techniques and neuroimaging.

In the past seven years at Columbia/NYSPI, she specialized in neuroimaging analysis using MRS, resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC), and computational mapping of brain networks. She was exposed to invasive and non-invasive brain stimulation as both a treatment and an investigational tool.

Dr. Moreno continues her passion for the study and identification of brain network architecture and malfunction in patients with depression and other neuropsychiatric disorders. These career experiences have led her to develop techniques for the analysis and guidance of more targeted and personalized treatment approaches such as TMS.

Clinical Director

01
BIOGRAPHY

As a Neuropsychiatrist and expert in Translational Clinical Neuroscience, Sandlin Lowe, MD has special interests in depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive conditions, ADHD, and PTSD. He also has expertise in treating traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), strokes, seizure disorders, cognitive impairments, dementia, and neurodevelopmental disorders including Autism Spectrum Disorders. Dr. Lowe’s innovative approaches provide new insights into the core pathology of many neuropsychiatric disorders and the etiologies of these Thalamocortical Dysrhythmias. Dr. Lowe incorporates functional brain neuroimaging utilizing Quantitative Electroencephalography (qEEG), SPECT brain imaging and fMRI in the design of new treatment protocols, including fMRI guided transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). His prior research contributions have included work with both qEEG and Magnetoencephalography (MEG). Dr. Lowe is a recipient of two Congressional Awards for his research work at Bellevue Hospital Center and NYU. He was previously on the Faculty of the NYU School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry and Department of Physiology & Neuroscience. Dr. Lowe has been a Consulting Neuropsychiatrist to the NYU School of Medicine Brain Research Laboratories and the NYU Langone Center for Neuromagnetism. Dr. Lowe completed his medical degree at Tulane University.
