The Safer Alternative to Electroshock Therapy (ECT)
We don’t perform Electroshock Therapy (ECT) because of its adverse short- and long-term side effects, including memory loss. Some people even experience permanent memory loss from ECT. However, fMRI-guided TMS offers an effective, non-invasive alternative way to treat complex psychiatric and neurological conditions without any side effects associated with ECT.
fMRI-guided TMS delivers magnetic pulses only on specific malfunctioning regions of the brain identified by our brain mapping technology, while ECT influences the whole brain, harmfully affecting the healthy regions of the brain. We also use fMRI-guided TMS to identify patients who might experience permanent memory loss from ECT. This means we can let you know if ECT is too risky for you, providing you with peace of mind about your decision to pursue fMRI-guided TMS.

Our patients will be seated comfortably in a chair similar to dental chairs and fitted with a cap. A tracker (sensors) attached to a band is placed around your head. While you are sitting, two large television screens will show your brain map and the areas that are to be treated.
